Nikon D3 – most exciting camera for years!

In the professional camera business, it seems that Nikon have been left in the dust by Canon over the last few years. despite the fact that the Nikon D2 series is better built, much more reliable, has infinitely better auto focus and friendlier ergonomics, Canons developments in sensor technology have given them the edge – particularly in the portrait and wedding business.

But now, Nikon is about to launch a new model that promises to take the lead in the professional wedding camera market.

The new D3 uses a full size 35mm x 24mm image sensor of Nikon’s own design. Although not yet available for general sale, the new camera seems to have the best low light performance of any comparable model and also includes a ton of great new features. Even better, the body and control layout is very similar to the current D2 designs – these were already the best so why change them.

So the bar has been raised.

The D3 is due to be available in November (which probably means a few months later – knowing Nikon), which means that we will have this super new tool for our 2008 weddings.

Oh – a lot of D3 features will also be available in Nikon’s new high end consumer camera, the D300. The D300 is going to cost about $1,800 and Nikon will sell a ton of them.
